Quas FFA

(and abit of the Sabo 3 v 3)

Well I was kept up all night long as blitzone playing Dota with Yan, Susu, Strayfer and Fiskan, and so I was very groggy and had the mind of doing some very silly and stupid stuff in the FFA. It was FFA PAM mod. So, I think any number of players can think of a million combinations of sohai-ness and stupid stuff to do. Mind you, C4, one stun grenade and claymores were still available :D

The day started... a little late off and you could see a bunch of XIII members using the PCs before the tournament started. I'd call it a 8 man FFA weekend bet because it came down to a winner take all prize pot with the lack of time to properly get the word out about the event.

You had Himself, Vyx, Rocket (poor victim), Bengz, superman, fiskan, me and goddamn there's another person who i can't remember. I'll try to remember as I continue writing. Well, we had a few preliminary rounds to get everyone warmed up and to ultimate test the stability of the mod. At first, everyone was thinking about using the dreadful RPD to just devastate the entire map with imba bullet penetration. But everyone just realized that the map was going to be so packed with frag hungry monsters that you wouldn't have time to realize you were getting stunned, flashed, naded or just MGed to death. Plus, there was the random shotty + stun + claymore that was hanging around.

The first map was Chinatown. Nih and Bengz, the organizers, decided to mess things up and put the weirdest and most unusual maps for everyone to play. It worked out fantastic as everyone got lost in Chinatown and kept getting hit by unexpected nades, flashes and the occasional last stand during dogfights. And i do believe, that superman was the victim of having a claymore explode in his face (just because the shotgunner was waiting right behind the claymore XD).

Perhaps the most open map of the day was Bog. Unfortunately, the FFA did not allow any of the players to get the devastating airstrike massacre like we used to see in those 12 v 12 public tdm games. But those two open crates did offer some claymore action. Himself was the first one to encounter the claymore shotty while desperately trying to take cover inside one of the open crates. He even got hit by the claymore a second time towards the end of the round. He checked the crate for a claymore, saw none there and decided to run in. He got stunned thus sensing the claymore trap near, he desperately swung his mouse to turn his gun barrel the other way round. Indeed, the shotgunner was behind him, ready to plant his claymore. He thought he was safe once he managed to kill him, but realized the shotty had planted the claymore right before he died. Too bad :D

The last map was killhouse. Now this is one map that is dreadful for a person running around trying to plant claymores behind or in front of surprised/unsuspecting victims. In a previous round, fiskan committed a suicide by result of the claymore exploding in his face because of his own bullets. Classic. In killhouse, it was a killing frenzy. Like the namesake, everywhere you turned, there was another person to kill (claymore). But Aqua...OH he's the last one :D...kept camping right underneath the wooden ramp at one end of the map. He camped behind under one side of the stairs to try to avoid detection. And he didn't move. Great way to avoid the claymore from exploding.

The Sabo 3 v 3 had a similar response. If one had stayed to watch the matches (that followed a mr_2 format), you'd be amazed by the amount of strategy a team of 3 can put into such a small map with a 2 minute countdown timer until sudden death. During sudden death, you have a permanent UAV which updates every millisecond of the game. Basically, you know exactly where your enemy is. Plus, it was promod, AK spamming ftw. The last few teams to utilize guns with longer range and higher bullet penetration to stand a higher chance of winning during the sudden death period. During the start of the matches, most teams swarmed like zerglings and tried to plant to bomb as fast as possible. But due to the 3 second respawn time and the nature of the map, many games saw nobody taking the bomb at all. Instead, they used it as bait to lure out the enemy.

The match was between Aqua, Superman and Rocket vs Quack, Pika and The one known to me as Quack's friend (i dunno his name. Plus they were changing their names so much it just didn't matter xD). Quack's team dominated during the start and quickly took the first two rounds with a fast plant and blanket nade tactic to defend the bomb. The 3 second respawn time was just too little to make up for the nading tactic and Aqua's team failed to defuse the bomb in time. But they managed to chase up by taking down the enemy first and only going for plant when it the bombsite was clear from the enemy. One round worth mentioning was the 1 v 3 clutch made by rocket. It was sudden death and rocket was hiding behind some walled boxes so the enemy could not penetrate him. He took a risk and popped up his head to try to kill one of the enemies at the other end of the map. He must have bet on his lucky stars because he took down not one, but two of the remaining enemies with a single round of his rifle. The enemy sniper took a move towards the sandbags in the middle of the map and tried to catch Rocket's head bobbing up and down from beneath the boxes. But the sniper did not manage to pinpoint his shot and rocket got the upper hand and delivered the kill. The final round, the tie breaker, means that it starts with sudden death mode activated, was perhaps the shortest battle in the Sabo 3 v 3 tournament. The round started off, quite spectacularly with a +10 nade from Aqua to the other side of the map. After that, all it took was a smoke and a flash, finished off by a volley of bullets through the wall to kill off the sniper. And that was it, Aqua's team was victorious.

At the end of day, fiskan emerged victorious and took the rm 80 prize money from the FFA and Aqua's team walked home with smiles branded on their faces. I only have one objection to that day: I wish I had more claymores to plant :D
